JORDI AZATEGUI, AMMAC
(Barcelona, 1973)

jordi@azategui.com

An early approach to music and photography leaded him to Llotja Advanced School of Arts and Design in which he is graded in Applied Arts on 1996 and where he developed talents for creative thinking and artistic expression. Shortly after, he started a ten years period as advertising Creative Director for the agency Renderman, S.L., leading the design and multimedia department and where his work was recognized with several nominations and LAUS awards from the Art Directors and Graphic Designers Association ADG-FAD.

In 2006 he co-founded the multidisciplinary creative studio Andrei Estudi, S.C.P. where he combines his personal journey as a photographer and video artist, exhibiting his own work and organizing col·lective exhibitions, with the activity of creative and commercial director for numerous graphic design, advertising, web and audiovisual projects; producing, directing, filming and editing commercial and documentary pieces for music, dance, theater and fashion under the brand Andrei Films.

He participated as official photographer in international festivals such as the 'Barcelona Asian Film Festival' (BAFF), the Goethe-Institut Barcelona German Film Festival or the International Dance Festival ‘Complicitats’, and he portraited the Barcelona Jazz scene publishing his photographs in specialized magazines.

In 2010 he carried out a documentary photography project financed by the We Are Water Foundation and destined for the exhibitions 'Aral. The lost sea' of which five exhibitions were presented in Barcelona, Madrid, London and Lisbon.

After exhibiting his work in galleries in Berlin, London, Rome, Lisbon, Madrid and Barcelona, he focused on the audiovisual narrative, starting a long creative career as director of photography and/or editor for films by the international filmmaker Isabel Coixet such as Yesterday never ends, Nobody wants the night, The bookshop or the recent It snows in Benidorm, the HBO series Foodie Love, documentaries such as 'Parler de Rose', White Tide or the Goya award-winner Listening to the Judge Garzón, and commercial pieces such as For being girls for Plan España or Normal for Ajuntament de Barcelona. From this relationship he receives two awards at the 16th Malaga Film Festival; for the Best Cinematography and for the Best Editing with the film Yesterday never ends starring Candela Peña and Javier Cámara.

He is a regular collaborator in the audiovisual projects of the renowned photographer Manuel Outumuro and member of the Catalan Audiovisual Editors Association, AMMAC. He currently lives in Spain where he works as an audiovisual producer, director, director of photography and editor, configuring teams and being an active part in all kinds of fiction, documentary, corporate or cultural projects.

As a filmmaker, he combines his artistic talents and experience in all his skills to immerse himself in the story, serene and attentive to the emotional states of the characters and their evolution. Defining their actions and especially their silences to find the gateway to their metaphysical universe.

As director of photography, his palette shapes organic and evocative universes inspired by real paintings where he identifies the emotional energy he considers convenient to build each scene of the film.

As an editor, he composes the rhythm of the story and the development of his characters through the layered emotional landscapes that shape them.
